Therapy Sessions & Fees

Therapy Sessions are broken up into three main parts;
the Evaluation; the Therapy; and Stretching.

The Evaluation

     The Evaluation part of the session is broken up into four parts; Movement, Palpation, Hoof Balance Evaluation, and Tack Evaluation. In the movement phase the horse is walked and trotted in a straight line and in a circle going both directions. While I’m watching him move I’m also noticing his condition, his conformation and if his muscles are properly developed. Next I palpate (touch) him all over his body and legs looking for problem areas and old injuries. Next I check to see how he is shod (corrective or regular) and if his feet are properly balanced. Finally I check his tack to make sure that it is fitted correctly.

Poorly Fitted Tack is the #1 cause of discomfort and misbehavior in horses!

The Therapy

     Once I’m through with the evaluation and have an idea of what is going on with the horse I choose my therapies. I always use a combination of therapies, never just one. You really cannot treat the body as a whole with just one kind of therapy. There’s just too much going on!

Finishing Stretches

     When the therapy session is completed I close with neck and leg stretches. This helps get the horse back into proper alignment once the body has been relaxed and the restrictions removed. Stretches and neck flexes should become an active part of your daily routine with your horse. Keeping a horse limber helps to keep him sound and I have always felt that prevention is the best medicine!

     As you can see there is a lot involved with properly evaluating and addressing a horse’s discomfort. But unless all of these steps are addressed there is no way to get to the root of the horse’s problems and get them resolved.
